On the Wings of Dragons

I was so busy chronicling our adventures while Zombie de Milo was here, that I never told you about the knit-a-long I had joined. I joined the Oh! Loops Harry Potter Knit-a-Long. It runs from October through December. I signed up and bought the requisite skein of Oh! Loops yarn (I got the colorway Sirius Black) back in August before I had any inkling of how insane busy this semester was going to be.

October rolled around and I cast on the Wisp pattern which I actually knit way back in probably eighth grade from a yarn I cannot remember (It’s from the time BR; before Ravelry). Then, while I was perusing the forums I realised that there was a theme; wings. I spent quite a bit of time down the Ravelry rabbit hole, before finding a pattern I liked.

I didn’t like any of the patterns with the word ‘wings’ in the title, but somehow, I stumbled across the Workday Scarf by Sue Flanders. It looked, to me, like the skeletal img_1395-copywings of a dragon, and thus, my iteration, ‘On Dragons’ Wings’ was cast on. I followed the pattern except for using size US 4 needles and only increasing to (if I remember correctly) 41 stitches instead of  56.

I used my skein of Oh! Loops yarn. It’s theTwist Knot base (Sport Weight, 100% SW Merino, 328 yds, 100g) and the Sirius Black colorway.img_1399-copy

Jake helped me to take some pictures of it being modeled this morning and I tried, with little success, to not seem too awkward.

There are a lot of ways to wear it, but these are my two favorites. I like the was it looks with this outfit (I got the skirt at a thrift store!) but it is probably too cold now to wear it outside.

One thing that surprised me about this project was how long the scarf actually ended up being. I can’t imagine how long it would be if I had had enough yarn to knit it to its full length. (Credit to Jake for the idea for the second picture here. I think it looks pretty cool.)

Zombie de Milo: The Weekend

It’s been a long end of the week and weekend. I do have a few pictures for this weekend.

Zombie de Milo helped my gather water for my science fair project. She was a little too interested in the bugs in it, but I managed to keep her from drooling in it and contaminating the sample.

Later Saturday night Jake and I made a cake for my 21st birthday (as an early thing). And, as you can see, it didn’t quite go as plan.

Zombie de Milo swears she didn’t startle me on purpose, she swears she just wanted to see what I was doing.

In the end, though, we did have enough batter left to make 1 layer of the planned two layer cake and ZdM even got to try a bit.

She didn’t like it, though, I’m thinking not enough blood and guts.

She’ll be heading out soon, onto her next destination, but I’ll keep taking pictures as long as she hangs around.

Zombie de Milo Days 3 & 4

Yesterday was a bit hectic (doing homework until 11:20 pm hectic) and I didn’t get a chance to post any pictures. I did manage to get a few pictures taken.

The hijinks started when I went to the library on Wednesday to do some scanning and printing.

Zombie de Milo got a bit cheeky with the scanner but, luckily, since she doesn’t have any arms she couldn’t get her underwear off.

Later Wednesday night I went to my 6:15 to 9:15 Science Methods night class and ZdM tagged along. She climbed out of my bag to investigate the static electricity experiment we were doing along with my sock knitting.

She came with me to KnitWits with me tonight and was infatuated with the pattern Alexis was writing for her Halloween costume.

Overall, it was pretty uneventful two days, and ZdM is getting pretty antsy so I’ll have to think up something for us to do.

Zombie de Milo: Day 2

Today was day 2 of Zombie de Milo’s stay. Iimg_8966 spent most of the day working on a mathematics Curriculum-Based Measure (fun, right?), more commonly known as a test. So Zombie de Milo didn’t spend much time out and about.

She did, however, offer to bite the guy who screwed up my Mocha. I did manage to dissuade her. She spent most of the afternoon chewing on the corners of my work as I randomized basic addition and subtraction problems (2d – 1d, no regrouping, and 2d + 1d) and fiddled with formatting in word.

img_8968After Jake got back from class she hung out with him while he played Pokemon Omega Ruby instead of watching me do homework.

I wrapped up my homework right around supper time so we all headed out together. Zombie de Milo  helped Jake and I catch a Meowth.screenshot_20161004-170500

ZdM was way too interested in the passerby’s so we took the picture as quickly as possible, which resulted in it being a bit blurry.

There will definitely be more picture taking opportunities later on to catch more Pokémon, and, judging by her growls she’ll be more than willing to help.

Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 & 4 The Weekend

Zombie de Milo: Day 1

I am part of a group on Ravelry called the KnittingDead. It’s a group for fans of the show the Walking Dead and horror/thriller fans in general. The idea was to send a knitted zombie doll around the country and around the world to all the members that wanted to have her visit.

Now, it’s my turn. Zombie de Milo actually arrived Friday, but not until I had already headed home. Iimg_8957 went and picked her up. Since she’d been in the envelope all weekend she went into a bit of swoon upon opening.

She attracted a lot of attention right away. Rey and Bucky weren’t too keen on her at first, but I was able to convince them that she was okay.

After that, I had to go to an observation at the local elementary school.  Zombie de Milo wanted  to come along.

img_8960But, after hearing about the germs first-graders carry, she was worried that she might get infected. So, I left her behind. She was grumbling about it when I left, but by the time I got back, she was commiserating with Maggoty Mags, my entry for the traveling img_8959zombie along.

She rode around with me for the rest of the day in my backpack but, she was so hungry I could hear growling, so I didn’t let her out.

She’ll be back tomorrow for more adventures, so check back in.
